MOLINE, Ill. — A new documentary will give voice to Moline's Wharton Field House.
The building has stood as a beacon of Quad City history since 1928. Countless sporting events, concerts and entertainers have passed through its doors. Johnny Cash, Michelle Obama, Jack Benny and Gene Autry are just a few of the names that have made a stop at Wharton.
WQPT, the Quad Cities' local PBS station, will produce and air a documentary on Wharton's instrumental role in the community. The full video will premiere on April 26 at 7 p.m. on channel 24.1.
"Much more than a structure, Wharton Field House has played a significant role in our community's past, but even more so in many of our personal lives," WQPT said in a press release. "This documentary will feature Wharton Field House's rich history by showcasing some of the amazing stories that occurred within its walls."
News 8's own Kory Kuffler will be featured in the documentary, talking about going to school in Moline and playing at Wharton.
But before the documentary can air, WQPT needs your help!
The team is inviting the public to submit photographs, personal experiences and memories, historical posters, trophies and other artifacts from games, concerts or other events at Wharton.
To do so, you can fill out a submission form here. WQPT will be accepting submissions until March 31.
Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution to support the production of this local documentary can donate here.
WQPT stopped by The Current on News 8 to discuss the types of submissions they're looking for and how they plan to use those memories and artifacts in the documentary. You can watch the full interview in the above video.
