"We definitely see the need" | UnityPoint Health hosting hiring fair for mental health, substance abuse services positions

Officials say there are nearly 100 open positions at the Robert Young Center & Center for Alcohol & Drug Services locations. There will be a hiring fair on Sept. 26.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — UnityPoint Health is looking to fill nearly 100 open positions on its Robert Young Center and Center for Alcohol & Drug Services, Inc. teams.

An in-person hiring event will be held on Thursday, September 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Robert Young Center Community Support Program building at 2200 3rd Avenue in Rock Island.

Open positions include outpatient clinic, crisis services, community-based and residential treatment jobs, such as:

  • Behavioral Health Technicians
  • Care Coordinators
  • Licensed Counselors
  • Mental Health Professionals
  • RNs
  • Peer Recovery Specialists
  • Social Workers
  • Substance Use Disorder Counselors

The hiring event will include on-the-spot interviews. Potential candidates, which can include soon-to-be graduates and those preparing for academic graduation in the future, should bring a resume and apply online here prior to the event. Attendees should be prepared to discuss work experience, goals and applicable trainings.

So why are there so many open positions?

According to UnityPoint Health, the Robert Young Center was selected to join the federal government's Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic demonstration project in June 2024. The CCBHC program is designed to expand and improve access to mental health and substance use services throughout the country, and pours money into selected programs.

But to reach more clients, the centers need more staff.

"Over the years, both nationally and locally, we have seen an increase in demand for services, both mental health needs and substance use disorder needs, and our community is no different. So we definitely see the need for those services here in the Quad Cities and Muscatine region, and thus the need to hire qualified professionals to serve that need," said MaryAnn Halpin, manager of community based services at the Robert Young Center.

In a press release, Mary Petersen, chief operations officer at Robert Young Center, emphasized the organization's reach.

"We are the only Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic in the Quad Cities/Muscatine region and are looking for talented, compassionate individuals to join our team,” Petersen wrote. “With clinics, treatment programs and community services in Rock Island, Mercer, Muscatine, Scott, and Clinton counties, there are many opportunities to grow your career with us.”
