Dive into an immersive theatre experience at the Rock Island Tunnel Co.

Rather than a stage and seats, this show has audience members walking from room to room and interacting with the actors. "The Tapes" will show October 11-26.

MOLINE, Ill. — Get ready for a theatre experience that flips the script!

The Rock Island Tunnel Co. is one of the newest production companies in the Quad Cities. Rather than using a stage to tell its stories, audience members walk from room to room, interacting with the actors.

After debuting in February with "The Stacks," Rock Island Tunnel Co. returns this October with its second show, "The Tapes: An Immersive Revolution."

Based on Alexander Richardson's play "Tapes from a Fascist State," this new show follows a failed poet/sanitation worker named Yevhen. Assigned by the state to monitor him is Conrad.

Audiences begin their journey in THE NATION's Welcome Center as new members of the dystopia. From there, the audience will have some guided portions of the experience, but will also be allowed to freely explore the space. The story swirls around its guests as the battle lines change and loyalty lines are blurred. By the end, the audience might find themselves questioning whose side they're really on.

Director, Ben Gougeon, says it was important to everyone involved to have the show air before the election, to emphasize the importance of voting.

"The Tapes" will perform at Sound Conservatory's downtown Moline location at 504 17th St. The show will play Oct. 11, 12, 17-19, 24 and 26. All performances will begin at 7:30 p.m. with an additional late night performance at 10 p.m. on Oct. 26. Doors open to the public half an hour before curtain. Capacity is extremely limited and advanced registration is highly encouraged. You can find tickets on Eventbrite, or on Rock Island Tunnel Co.'s Facebook and Instagram
