Bridging gaps by putting in steps: Meet the local walking club bringing young people together

From holiday meetups to book clubs, trivia nights & many miles logged, Quad City Girls Who Walk has fostered a welcoming, active space for people to find community.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Get ready to get your steps in!

The Quad City Girls Who Walk club is a local chapter of a nationwide organization aimed at getting people active while providing a space for community.

Group members meet up several times a month for a variety of walks around town, book clubs, holiday meetups, trivia nights, movie nights, shopping sprees and more. It's a chance to meet new people while also exploring your passions - both new and old.

Most of the members start off not knowing one another. Anyone is welcome to join at any time.

Even when the weather is cold outside, the group tries to get together for walks around local malls.

'Girls Who Walk' clubs can be found in major cities all over the country, from Chicago to Iowa City, Honolulu to Kansas City and beyond.

You can contact the local chapter and check out their upcoming events by checking out their Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or linktr.ee

Two of the group's members, Lauren Hart and Madison Wilderman, joined The Current on News 8 to discuss the group's impact on the Quad City community thus far. You can check out their full interview in the above video.
