'We wanted to take it to the next level' | Quad Cities Community Foundation expanding nonprofit opportunities in 2024

The foundation has developed a new Center for Nonprofit Excellence to serve even more local nonprofits this year.

BETTENDORF, Iowa — The Quad Cities Community Foundation has big plans for 2024 as it hopes to increase its partnerships with local nonprofits.

For years, the Foundation has worked with area nonprofits. That includes a recent $300,000 transformative grant to the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center to continue its West End Revitalization efforts in Rock Island.

Now, the Foundation has developed a Center for Nonprofit Excellence to help local 501(c)(3)s.

"We wanted to take it to the next level and really develop new educational opportunities and ways that really support the new and ongoing needs of our nonprofits," Sue Hafkemeyer, president and CEO of the Quad Cities Community Foundation, said.

There are a number of ways for local nonprofits to get involved. Organizations can join the Foundation's CEO link programming, development link programming, sign up for seminars throughout the year, and apply for a variety of grants.

"We provide all kinds of different grants," Hafkeymeyer said. "Everything from operations and programming to helping them build their capacity to even transformational grants for innovative ideas. And we provide unrestricted dollars for a lot of those things. So the nonprofit leaders take those dollars and really make an impact."

Hafkeymeyer joined The Current on News 8 to discuss the ongoing efforts to support local 501(c)(3)s and what the Community Foundation is looking forward to in 2024. To watch her full interview you can view the above video.
