MOLINE, Ill. — Giving back, in more ways than one!
The American Red Cross of Illinois is throwing the 'Pints and Paws' blood drive on July 11 and 12.
Anyone who donates blood at one of four participating sites will be given a Red Cross bandana for their pet, and $10 will be donated back to four area humane societies. There will also be adoptable pets present at the donation sites. Red Cross donors can also pick up a new umbrella when giving blood between July 1 and 14, while supplies last.
Historically, blood donations drop off in the summertime, when transfusion needs go up. The Red Cross reports about 20,000 fewer blood donations were collected during May than what's needed to maintain the organization's national supply.
On Thursday, July 11, you can donate from noon to 6 p.m. at:
- American Red Cross of the Quad Cities Moline Chapter - 1100 River Drive, Moline IL
- Davenport Public Library Eastern Branch - 6000 Eastern Avenue, Davenport IA
On Friday, July 12, donations will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at:
- MLK Center - 630 9th Street, Rock Island IL
- Isle of Capri - 1777 Isle Parkway, Bettendorf IA
To schedule your appointment, you may call 1-800-733-2767 or visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter the sponsor code: PINTSANDPAWS. Donors can also download the Blood Donor App to schedule appointments.
