ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — NEST Cafe, the Quad Cities' only pay-what-you-can restaurant is celebrating two years of business in Rock Island.
There will be a special anniversary celebration on Thursday, April 11. NEST will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and then again for supper from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Throughout the day there will be giveaways, special guests and, of course, lots of food.
Guests will be able to meet and purchase produce from some of the local farmers and vendors that supply NEST's groceries. That includes Grateful Graze, Tapestry Farms, Burnham Family Farm and the QC Farmers Market.
NEST prides itself on using locally grown and sourced food to create healthy and nutritious meals.
No reservations are needed. NEST is located at 1524 4th Ave in Rock Island.
The restaurant is open Tuesday through Saturday's with a new menu published each week. You can check out each week's menu on NEST's Facebook.
Each day, guests may choose between two entrees, and sides while also enjoying a salad and sweet treat. Full plates are a $10 suggested donation and half plates are $7. Kids always eat free.
Founder Laura Mahn says the model has been working. About a third of NEST's patrons pay the suggested donation, a third give less and the other third donate more.
