3 Illinois area mental health clinics receiving increased funding

Illinois is one of 10 states chosen for a federal program that's giving larger reimbursements to certified mental health centers treating clients who cannot pay.

MOLINE, Ill. — Three mental health centers in Moline, Rock Island and Galesburg will be receiving more federal dollars, thanks to a national program now being rolled out across Illinois.

Illinois is one of ten states, including Iowa, which was chosen to participate in the federally-funded Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Demonstration Program

It has to do with Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics, which are centers required to serve anyone who requests care for mental health and/or substance abuse. This is regardless of their ability to pay, age or place of residence. CCBHCs must meet certain standards, such as having crisis services available 24/7.

This new program provides reimbursement through Medicaid for the full cost of services that CCBHCs provide. The key here is those reimbursements are at higher rates than what these centers previously received for Medicaid customers.

The program is estimated to bring an additional $150 million into Illinois' behavioral health system.

19 centers across Illinois were selected to take part in this. Locally, that includes Robert Young Center in Moline and Rock Island as well as Bridgeway, Inc. in Galesburg.

“This is an investment in the health and well-being of our local communities,” Illinois State Sen. Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, said. “Being selected as part of this program will ensure mental and behavioral health services are available for residents in crisis, regardless of their ability to pay.”
