From Sterling, Illinois to stardom: Lexi Rodriguez is enjoying the journey

From the Golden Warriors to now dominating as a Husker, Rodriguez has quickly become one of the faces of NCAA volleyball. That includes her own trading card.

LINCOLN, Neb. — At this point, you're better off asking what can't Lexi Rodriguez do?!

The Sterling-grad has made waves throughout NCAA volleyball and has helped lead her Nebraska Huskers to multiple D1 championships.

The superstar libero started her 2023 season with "Volleyball Day in Nebraska," which drew 92,003 fans to a game at Nebraska's football stadium. That night also set a world record for attendance at a women's sporting event.

She's a three-time All-American, a two-time Big Ten Defensive Player of the year and leads a defense that is first in the nation when it comes to opponent hitting percentage.

But if that wasn't enough, she made history in the fall of 2023 by becoming the first female college athlete to sign a NIL deal with Panini America and have her own trading card. It was also Panini's first time making a college volleyball trading card.

Now, fresh off a second place finish at the NCAA college volleyball championship, Rodriguez and the Huskers are hungry going into the 2024 season. The team lost no seniors after 2023. Instead, this will be Rodriguez's senior year.

Rodriguez joined The Current on News 8 to discuss her history-making trading card deal, her goals for the next season and what she's taken in from this past year. You can watch her full interview in the above video.
