DAVENPORT, Iowa — Kinna's House Of Love, a Quad Cities nonprofit dedicated to helping women and children who have survived abuse, has achieved a years-long dream of having a house for single women.
The nonprofit hopes to house at least 12 women in the four-bedroom, two-bathroom structure. Residents will also have access to counseling, workshops and self-esteem-building exercises.
News 8 will not be releasing the address of the new house for the occupants' safety.
The house will need volunteers while founder Leukinna Hodges searches for full-time staff members. All volunteers are required to complete a domestic violence training course.
The community is also encouraged to donate new and/or gently used household items, such as toiletries, sheets, towels and bunk beds.
You can contact KHOL here. The nonprofit is run out of the Lincoln Community Center at 318 E. 7th St. in Davenport.
KHOL was founded in 2020. Hodges had dreamed of helping her community by creating a shelter since she was a young girl. She's passionate about standing up for those facing sexual violence and adversity. Hodges was one of WQAD's 2023 Jefferson Award nominees.
"Believe me, I know I'm under God's hand," Hodges said while talking to News 8 about her nomination. "Out of everything I went through, everybody can't handle it. He knew that I was going to come through."
