Illinois Sen. Neil Anderson hosting annual 'Valentines for Seniors' card drive

State Sen. Neil Anderson is collecting valentines until Feb. 5 that will be distributed to long-term care facilities across Illinois' 47th District.

ALEDO, Ill. — Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and as pink and red items line the shelves of stores across the country, one Illinois state senator is asking the public to help share the love.

Republican state Sen. Neil Anderson, who represents Illinois' 47th District, is once again hosting his annual "Valentines for Seniors" card drive. Residents and organizations across the area are being asked to make homemade valentines that will then be delivered to nursing homes, assisted living facilities and other long-term care facilities throughout the district.

“This is an incredible program that allows constituents across the 47th District the ability to show our seniors how much they appreciate them by sending in personalized and creative cards to our district office to distribute,” Anderson said in a press release. “On a day focused around love, sometimes our seniors may feel lonely or forgotten about and we hope to brighten their day through our annual card drive.”

Cards can be dropped off at Anderson's district office until Feb. 5, located at 103 N. College Ave. #201 in Aledo, Illinois. A drop box is available inside the building during normal business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) or there will be a small mailbox located outside for after-hour drop-offs.

Anderson joined The Current on News 8 to talk more about the drive and what it means for seniors in the area. You can watch his live interview in the above video.
