A sea of quilts: The Great River Quilt Show returns to the Quad Cities

More than 500 quilts will be on display at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds October 18-19. There will also be vendors, auctions, raffles and demonstrations.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — The sew-losophy here: never enough quilts! 

The biennial Great River Quilt Show returns to the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds on October 18 and 19. It's run by the Mississippi Valley Quilters Guild. Admission is $10 and your ticket will get you into both days. Visitors 10 and under are free. Tickets are available at the door. 

The show will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, then 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Parking is free and handicap accessible, and buses are welcome. 

More than 500 handcrafted quilts will be on display, from quilters as young as 10 years old to artisans well into their 90s. All of the quilts come from MVQG members. Some of the quilts will be available to purchase. There will also be quilts up for raffle. One raffle ticket is $1 or you can purchase six tickets for $5. 

There will also be a variety of vendors on hand, as well as gift basket raffles. A charity auction, secondhand treasures and appraisals will also be happening throughout the weekend. The 2024 featured quilter is Judy Nelson.
