DAVENPORT, Iowa — With the new year underway — and the days finally starting to get a little longer — some might be trying to seek a "rejuvenated version" of themselves for 2024.
That's what one Quad Cities church is looking to provide during an upcoming retreat. The Spiritual Grown Mission at Grace Lutheran Church is putting on a "Reflect, Release, Renew" retreat on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon. It's completely free to the public and will take place in Pat Bell Hall inside the church, located at 1140 E. High St. in Davenport.
The retreat's speaker will be Chris McCormick Pries, a board-certified advanced registered nurse practitioner who has worked with the Vera French Community Mental Health Center for 45 years, serving as their clinic director until her partial retirement in 2020. In addition, McCormick Pries is actively involved in the Quad Cities community. This includes serving as the chairperson of the Diocese of Davenport Sexual Abuse Review Board, working as a parish nurse at St. John Vianney in Bettendorf, being an adjunct faculty member at the University of Iowa School of Nursing and a preceptor to physician assistant students at St. Ambrose University.
During the holidays, “we can deplete ourselves of energy, focus and purpose," McCormick Pries said in a press release. "We give to everyone else but ourselves. As we move into the new year, it becomes important to pause, take an opportunity to replenish ourselves and then move through the five important stages that can reshape what we are doing and how we are thinking."
The five stages she's referencing are the following:
- Replenishing
- Reflecting
- Refocusing
- Recommitting
- Rejoicing
McCormick Pries will help attendees find ways to nurture each stage and fully implement them into their lives. She stopped by The Current on News 8 to talk more about the retreat and what attendees can expect. You can catch the entire interview in the above video.
