DAVENPORT, Iowa — Gilda's Club Quad Cities is expanding its services to the entire state of Iowa.
The expansion comes after Gilda's Club received a grant from the Iowa Cancer Consortium. Iowa has the second highest cancer incidence rate in the nation. As such, Gilda's Club says bringing its no-cost support to even more Iowans is more crucial than ever before.
The organization will also be changing its name to Cancer Support Community Iowa and NW Illinois at Gilda's Club.
Gilda's Club says the changes are more inclusive, and ensures no one feels excluded based on location.
"This change does not erase our history but rather builds upon it to ensure a vibrant future," the organization wrote in a press release. "We are committed to maintaining the spirit of warmth, support and compassion that Gilda’s Club has always represented."
Locally, the Quad Cities Gilda's Club experience will remain the same. Area programming, events and support groups will continue as usual, and at no-cost to its attendees. That includes educational workshops and social activities designed to help those impacted by cancer regain control, build connections and improve their quality of life.
Gilda's Club went on to say this will actually expand the support network, creating stronger resources across Iowa.
