Got yard signs? Here's what you can do with them after the election

Midland Davis Corporation in Moline breaks down just how you can recycle your election signs, mailers and envelopes.

MOLINE, Ill. — Once the election has come and gone, what do you do with your campaign yard signs and piles of election mail? It turns out, it can all be recycled!

Midland Davis Corporation is a recycling center in Moline. Chief Strategy Officer, Laura Davis, says the volume of recyclable products coming into the center increases the last few months of the year.

"In general, in November and December, we have a lot more mail going into the bins, with charity mailers, election mailers and Christmas cards," Davis said.

If you've had election mail delivered to your home, Davis says it's all good to go in the bin. The envelopes they come in can also be recycled, even if they have the little see-through windows.

As for yard signs, all you have to do is pull them apart, separating the sign from the metal sticks.

"You put the [sign] in the blue bin that you have at your curb, if you have that," Davis said.

Then, you can bring the metal down to Midland Davis Corporation and drop it off at a public metals bin.

"Where we have our comingled bins, that's where the plastic yard sign can go. And then the blue bin will just be right next to it, and that's where the metal part can go."

When it comes to bottles, whether you're celebrating on election night, or drowning your sorrows, make sure you rinse out your glass or plastic bottles before tossing them into the recycling bin.

But what if you're not sure if something can be recycled?

"It would be best to contact your recycling center," Davis said. "You can always call us at Midland Davis. The phone number is 309-764-6723. Or you can contact Scott Area Recycling Center as well."
