ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The community is invited to walk a mile (or two, to be exact) in the shoes of those experiencing homelessness throughout the QCA with the second annual Frigid Feet Walk on Saturday, December 16.
The two mile route will begin and end at the Christian Care Rescue Mission at 2209 3rd Avenue in Rock Island. Day-of registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with the walk starting at 9.
Registration is $25 with attendees receiving free soup and sandwiches at the end of the walk, courtesy of the Rock Island Hy-Vee. All of the proceeds from the walk go to Christian Care's mission of caring for and housing those in our community who live unsheltered.
The first Frigid Feet Walk in 2022 brought in about 50 community members. This year, Christian Care is hoping to surpass that number.
Cindi Gramenz, organizer of the walk, says it can be difficult for those who have never experienced homelessness to understand all of the challenges that go along with it. Along the walk, participants are encouraged to reflect and converse about what it's like to have no home to turn to.
If you'd like to register ahead of time, or if you have any questions, you're encouraged to contact Gramenz at cgramenz@christiancareqc.org.
Gramenz also joined The Current to discuss the impact of the walk and what Christian Care will use the money for. You can watch her full interview in the above video.
Tune into The Current from 4 to 5 p.m. on weekdays to catch even more live interviews impacting you, your family and your hometown as well as all of the biggest headlines of the day.
