DAVENPORT, Iowa — Books & Meows, the first cat bookstore in the Quad Cities opens in Davenport on Friday, Nov. 15. Not only are there plenty of books for sale, but there will be several cats roaming around, all ready to be adopted.
The store is located at 3719 Bridge Ave Suite 2 in Davenport. It's a nonprofit, dedicated to finding forever homes for adoptable cats, as well as improving literacy. The cats are adoptable through the Humane Society of Scott County.
Starting out, Books & Meows will be open 1 to 5 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It will also be open at least one weekend day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The nonprofit expects to expand hours after opening.
Guests will need to reserve a time slot before coming in. You can do so here. It costs $10 to enter, which helps pay for the cats' care.
There are a number of seating options inside, including work and study spaces, a children's room and a casual sitting area. Guests can stop by to play with the cats, study, work or just simply relax. There is Wi-fi available.
There are not beverages for sale at the bookstore, but outside beverages are allowed. The nonprofit will have baked goods for sale.
At the time of opening, Books & Meows has six cats available for adoption.
