Here's where you can see the Big Boy Locomotive in the Quad Cities area

The 1.2 million pound Union Pacific train is the largest steam train in the world. It's headed on tour and will make stops in Grand Mound and Sterling on Sept. 6.

STERLING, Ill. — Get ready! Big Boy is coming to town! 

Union Pacific Railroad has released the full tour stop schedule for its record-breaking steam-powered locomotive this summer and fall. 

The Heartland of America Tour will feature Big Boy No. 4014 locomotive. This is the largest steam-powered train in the world, weighing 1.2 million pounds.

This train was one of only 25 built exclusively for the Union Pacific Railroad. Each one was 132 feet long. The first one was delivered in 1941. Seven of these trains are on display around the country. 

Big Boy was delivered in 1941 and retired 20 years later. Extensive restoration began on the locomotive in 2013 and took two years to complete

You can catch the massive train in both Grand Mound, Iowa, and Sterling, Illinois on Friday, September 6. It will arrive in Grand Mound, at the Smith Street Crossing at 11 a.m. and depart 15 minutes later. From there, it's next stop will be in Sterling at the Sterling Marketplace at 111 West Second Street at 1:30 p.m. It will depart from there at 1:45 p.m. 

Train visitors are asked to stay 25 feet back from any rail tracks, at all times.
