All About 8: Meet Sherry Phillips, News 8's own 'Dr. Dolittle'

Once a month, we highlight some of our off-screen colleagues at WQAD. For April, meet Sherry: she's rescued alligators, horses, pigs, geese & everything in between.

REYNOLDS, Ill. — Bringing you our News 8 newscasts takes a whole host of talented, hardworking and determined people. For all of the talented employees you see on-screen, there are many more off-screen bringing our community the current headlines.

So on the 8th of each month, we highlight one of these crew members on The Current at 4 p.m.

For April, we sat down with WQAD Local Sales Manager, Sherry Phillips

Ever since she can remember, Sherry has always loved animals. She's previously served as a board member for the Quad City Animal Welfare Center and was known for taking in animals that needed a home at her Geneseo farm.

But ever since Sherry and her family moved out to a larger farm in Reynolds, those rescues have really taken off.

Any animal in need—whether it's hurt on the side of the road or simply won't be accepted by local shelters—can find a home at Sherry's farm. From horses and goats, to geese and pigs, even alligators and miniature ponies and everything in between, Sherry has seen it all.

She's earned herself the nickname of 'Dr. Dolittle' at work for her efforts.

In fact, just a few weeks ago she got a call about a goose hurt on the side of the road. The bird was brought to the WQAD station, where she kept it in her office until she could bring it home later that evening. We're told the goose—now named Doug—is doing great out on her farm.

Now, we need to stress - Sherry does not run a formal animal shelter. However, she never turns away an animal in need.

We're thankful for her work, both at the station and with our animal friends!

You can watch our full interview with Sherry in the above video.

Tune into The Current from 4 to 5 p.m. on weekdays to catch even more live interviews impacting you, your family and your hometown as well as all of the biggest headlines of the day.
