MOLINE, Ill. — It takes a whole village of hardworking people to bring you the news here at WQAD. For all of the talented employees you see on-screen, there are many more off-screen that dedicate years of time and talent to bringing our community the current headlines.
So on the 8th of each month, we highlight some of those crew members on The Current at 4 p.m.
For February, allow us to introduce you to Charlie Whiteman.
Whiteman has been with Channel 8 for more than two decades. He spent years producing GMQC at 11 before moving up to becoming our News 8 morning show executive producer. He oversees our entire morning crew, from story ideas to the content that makes it on air to the different special segments you see on all of our GMQC shows.
Outside of work, Whiteman pulls double duty as a coach for both Moline's girls and boys soccer teams. It's a role he's enjoyed for the last seven years.
We took a trip out to Moline's soccer fields to chat with Whiteman about what a ride it's been to watch both programs develop over the years, his favorite parts about coaching and the differences between coaching a team of girls versus a team of boys (the answer might surprise you). You can watch the full interview in the above video.
Tune into The Current from 4 to 5 p.m. on weekdays to catch even more live interviews impacting you, your family and your hometown as well as all of the biggest headlines of the day.
