MOLINE, Ill. — It takes a whole village of hardworking people to bring you the news here at WQAD. For all of the talented employees you see on-screen, there are many more off-screen that dedicate years of time and talent to bringing our community the current headlines.
So on the 8th of each month, we're going to start highlighting some of those crew members on The Current at 4 p.m.
For January, allow us to introduce you to Bill Dobbelare.
Dobbelare has been with Channel 8 for more than 30 years. After decades as a director, working weekends, holidays, late nights and many, many early mornings, Dobbelare was recently promoted to maintenance engineer. Today, he troubleshoots our (many) tech questions, climbs high into the air to take care of our cameras, plans and implements new projects around the station and makes sure we're able to bring our product to air each day.
Outside of work, Dobbelare has been a long-time member of the Quad Cities' local home brewing club: MUGZ.
We brought Dobbelare onto The Current to chat about his work with MUGZ, what kind of drinks he likes to brew and how you at home can get involved with home brewing. You can watch his full interview in the video above.
Tune into The Current from 4 to 5 p.m. on weekdays to catch even more live interviews impacting you, your family and your hometown as well as all of the biggest headlines of the day.
