LEE COUNTY, Illinois — A Rock Falls man has been arrested after an all-day standoff with police at a Lee County hotel, according to a press release from the sheriff's office.
Around 9:40 a.m. on Sunday, Lee County Dispatch received a 911 call where the caller said a person had just threatened him with a firearm at the Magnuson Hotel, located at 443 Illinois Route 2. Authorities with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, Dixon Police and the Illinois State Police responded to the scene.
During the investigation, police were able to identify the suspect as 29-year-old Steven Armoska of Rock Falls. Armoska was staying in the hotel, and police found he had prior weapons offenses and felony convictions.
Tactical officers from the sheriff's office and police department, along with medics from the fire department, were called to establish a perimeter around Armoska's hotel room.
According to the release, authorities attempted to make contact with Armoska through the afternoon but were unsuccessful. Authorities decided to release a CS chemical agent into the room, and shortly after, Armoska left his room.
Armoska is being held at Lee County Jail pending a detention hearing. Authorities say they found numerous firearms, cannabis and other controlled substances in the hotel room.
Armoska's charged with:
- Armed Habitual Criminal, which is a class X felony (four counts)
- Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (four counts)
- Two drug-related felonies (two counts)
- Aggravated assault
The Lee County State's Attorney's Office and other law enforcement agencies assisted the sheriff's office at the scene.
