Sterling police find man with fatal stab wounds in crashed vehicle, suspect arrested

40-year-old Robert A. Ager of Sterling was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection to the incident, according to police.

STERLING, Ill. — A Sterling man is dead after officers found him with stab wounds in a crashed vehicle, according to police. 

Just after midnight on Sunday, Aug. 11, the Sterling Police Department said it was notified about a vehicle that crashed in the parking lot of CGH Medical Center at 100 East LeFevre Rd. 

Inside the vehicle, police said they found a 41-year-old man with stab wounds. Medical aid was provided but he later died from his injuries at CGH. The victim's name is being withheld until family members have been notified. 

Upon investigation, police said they arrested 40-year-old Robert A. Ager of Sterling in connection to the incident. Officers located Ager in the area of CGH Medical Center where he was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Whiteside County Jail pending a detention hearing. 

Police said preliminary investigative findings show Ager and the victim knew each other. The department added it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public. 

The investigation is ongoing and no other information was provided. Police said additional details will be released at a later date and time. 

The Rock Falls Police Department, Whiteside County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and CGH Medical Center assisted Sterling Police.
