DAVENPORT, Iowa — St. Ambrose University has completed renovations on the historic Higgins Hall, the second-oldest building on its main campus, and will open it to the public on Monday, Dec. 18.
Renovations were originally announced in October 2021 with a budget of $8 million.
Originally dedicated in 1917 as LeClaire Hall, the building will host three existing programs in the College of Health and Human Services, in addition to St. Ambrose's Institute for Person-Centered Care.
The Bachelor of Social Work, Master of Social Work and Master of Public Health will occupy the 24,000-square-foot building.
Higgins Hall has nine classrooms with capacities of between 25 and 72 people. It also holds a conference room, the office for the Dean of Innovation, 18 offices and other support spaces.
The university spent $11.5 million on the renovation. It received up to $5 million in historic tax credits and supplemental donations. When it was built in 1916, the original building cost $115,000.
