Augustana professor's work featured in solo exhibition at Figge Art Museum

This new exhibition features immersive, large-scale paintings that will transform the gallery.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Editor's Note: A previous version of this story said that Peter Xiao is a student at Augustana College. This is inaccurate as he is a longtime professor at the university. The error has been corrected.

Peter Xiao is a longtime art professor at Augustana College and will become the next artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Figge Art Museum.

Xiao's display "A Room That One Is In (And All Things In It)" will consist of 18 large-scale paintings. When fully installed the art will create an immersive experience that challenges the intersection of daily life and art. Even the flooring will be modified when the artwork is installed.

"We are delighted to showcase this exhibition at the Figge," Michelle Hargrave, the museum's executive director and CEO, said. "Xiao's remarkable body of work will take viewers on a thought-provoking artistic journey, encouraging them to deeply engage with their own perceptions and experiences."

Xiao's inspiration for the exhibit comes from his studies in Renaissance artwork, and the properties associated with perspective and color to create depth in his paintings.

This exhibition will be on display starting Dec. 9, and will be available to view until Apr. 7. Tickets to enter the Figge Art Museum are $10 for adults, $6 for seniors and students with IDs, and $4 for children ages 4 to 12.
