MUSCATINE, Iowa — A Muscatine restaurant officially has the best pulled pork sandwich in the state of Iowa.
Skinny's Barbeque was named the winner of the Iowa Pork Producers Association 2024 March Madness bracket, which pitted the restaurant against 15 other barbeque spots around the Hawkeye State. On Friday, March 29, officials with the IPPA announced that Skinny's had triumphed over Templeton-based Barrel Smoke BBQ in the final round to claim the title. In previous rounds, Skinny's had beaten out Wapello's Cynful Smokehouse and Creamery, Agency's Five Hawks BBQ and McGregor's Backwoods Bar and Grill.
In a press release announcing the win, Skinny's owner Cord Kleist said that the victory “brings a tear to my eye. It’s crazy to see how far we’ve come and adapted and changed."
Kleist will receive $250 and a Pulled Pork Madness plaque to commemorate the victory.
