East Moline police investigating shots fired incident, woman hospitalized

Police said the woman's injuries were not caused by gunshots but "were likely from some type of physical attack."

EAST MOLINE, Ill. — East Moline police are investigating a shots fired incident that happened early Tuesday morning. Officials said a woman was hospitalized with head injuries but that those wounds did not appear to be from a gunshot. 

Around 4:09 a.m. on Aug. 20, police responded to the 1300 block of 5th Avenue Court for what they said was an unknown problem. According to a press release, police determined that shots had been fired and responders located multiple shell casings at the location. Investigators also noticed damage to a vehicle in the area. 

First responders assisted a woman at the scene with head injuries. Police said the woman's injuries were not caused by gunshots but "were likely from some type of physical attack." According to the release, there is no evidence to suggest that anyone suffered a gunshot wound. The woman was transported to a local hospital for treatment where she was later released.
