2 arrested after shots fired near Modern Woodmen Park Tuesday night, officials say

A spokesperson for the River Bandits said its Tuesday game was delayed for safety reasons but that the incident took place outside of the ballpark.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Davenport police responded to a shots fired call Tuesday night in Centennial Park, near Modern Woodmen.

The incident took place shortly before 7:15 p.m. on May 28 in the area of 200 S. Gaines St. Police say a verbal altercation between four people who knew each other escalated into shots being fired. The firearm used was recovered by police.

Police say 42-year-old Shebra D. Waters and a 17-year-old male were arrested in connection to the shooting. An arrest affidavit says Waters allegedly shot at someone in the area and was identified by witnesses and the co-defendant. No injuries or damages were reported.

Waters faces intimidation with a dangerous weapon, dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by a felon and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon. The 17-year-old has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon and intimidation with a dangerous weapon.

A Quad Cities River Bandits game was going on at the time. According to a spokesperson for the team, there was a short delay due to safety protocols "but everything as far as the incident itself took place outside of the ballpark." Police say they coordinated with River Bandits personnel throughout the incident.

The investigation is ongoing and no other information was made available.
