Shooting takes place in Rock Island Friday evening, suspect arrested

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, police said they found a 19-year-old man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his leg and hand in the 2200 block of 9th Street.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A Rock Island man has been arrested in connection to a Friday shooting, police said.

Just before 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4, officers with the Rock Island Police Department responded to the 2200 block of 9th Street after receiving reports of a gunshot victim. RIPD said officers found a 19-year-old man with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to his leg and hand. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

20-year-old Joseph A. Schmacht was identified by police as a suspect and was arrested on Oct. 7 around 3:30 a.m. He has been charged with aggravated battery with a firearm in the 1400 block of 38th Street, police said. He is being held in the Rock Island County Jail pending formal charges.
