46-year-old man shot on Fourth of July night in Rock Island, police say

Officials say the man sustained life-threatening injuries but was stabilized enough to be transferred to Iowa City for treatment. His condition is unknown.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — A 46-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Rock Island on the Fourth of July, according to police.

Around 10:19 p.m. on Thursday night, officers responded to a residence on the 800 block of 24th Street after the man arrived with a gunshot wound to his chest. In an email sent to News 8, Rock Island Police Chief Timothy McCloud said officers located a crime scene nearby. 

Officials say the man had sustained life-threatening injuries but was stabilized enough to be transferred to the University of Iowa Medical Center for treatment. His condition is unknown. 

No other injuries have been reported at this time and the Rock Island Criminal Investigations Division continues to investigate the incident.
