Police said the contributing factors to the crash were excessive speed and unfamiliarity with the area.

Police said that the semitruck driver who hit one home before crashing into another in Kewanee on Tuesday was not under the influence of any substances at the time of the crash.

The crash occurred in the 800 block of E. 2nd Street around 2 p.m. on Sept. 3. The WinSupply semitruck exited the roadway and struck the side of one home, causing damage to its foundation and siding. The sole occupant of that home was unharmed.

The truck continued driving toward a neighboring residence, becoming embedded inside the home. The unoccupied second home was badly damaged and has since been torn down after officials deemed the structure a public safety hazard.

In a Thursday news release, Kewanee police identified the driver as 56-year-old Albert Greene, of Crete, Illinois. Greene voluntarily provided medical records and allowed medical staff to speak with police detectives. Greene also provided a statement to detectives.

Officials said they determined that Greene was not under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, nor did he suffer a medical emergency. Greene sustained multiple injuries in the crash and was airlifted to a regional hospital for treatment. He is currently in stable condition.

Police identified the contributing factors to the accident were excessive speed and unfamiliarity with the area. Officials said Greene was issued a citation for speeding, disobeying a stop sign and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

Officials say WinSupply, the owner of the semi-truck, has provided dash and cab camera footage from the vehicle that captured the crash.
