Florida man facing DUI charges after driving burning semi on I-80 in Illinois, police say

Burnt debris, including boxed cookies, was scattered along the road for about a mile. Officials say the road was closed for around six hours Saturday morning.

HENRY COUNTY, Ill. — A Florida man is facing DUI charges after allegedly driving a burning semi approximately one mile in Henry County, Illinois early Saturday morning.

According to the Illinois State Police, the incident happened shortly before 2:15 a.m. June 8 on I-80, around two miles east of the I-74 interchange. Officers responded to the area for a commercial vehicle fire.

ISP says the trailer tandems had caught fire and that the driver, 29-year-old Rayley Clervoyant of West Palm Beach, drove around one mile, scattering burnt debris and boxed cookies along the roadway. He later pulled to the side of the road, according to ISP. No injuries were reported.

That portion of I-80 was closed for around six hours Saturday morning due to the fire and opened up around noon. ISP says Clervoyant was cited for a DUI.
