Scott County Humane Society worried they may have to start euthanizing dogs due to capacity issues

Shelter officials said they need to have 10 dogs placed by Thursday afternoon.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Officials with the Scott County Humane Society say the shelter has reached "a breaking point" with the number of dogs in their care.

In a Facebook post, shelter officials said they have no more space for crates to keep dogs in, with some currently in offices and the dishwashing room.

With the conditions being so tight, shelter officials are turning to the community for help. According to the post, if the shelter hasn't found homes for 10 dogs by the afternoon of Thursday, May 30, they may have to resort to euthanasia. The post says they aren't looking for homes for any specific dogs; they simply need more space in order to take in additional animals.

The shelter will be open from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday. Adoption fees for dogs are $22, but shelter officials said they'll waive it for adopters with financial barriers. You can take a look at all the furry friends in need of a loving home here.
