Scott County completes 2024 General Election audit

A group of election officials hand-counted votes cast at a randomly-selected precinct to ensure they matched the machine count.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Scott County has completed its election audit, confirming the results of Tuesday night's election.

The audit was conducted on Friday, Nov. 8. The Iowa Secretary of State's Office randomly selected a voting precinct to hold the audit, which ended up being the Surrey Heights Fire Station. Then, a group of five election officials personally tallied the votes in the races for president and Scott County Sheriff. The results were found to be identical. Scott County Auditor Kerri Tompkins said she hopes the process helps set voters at ease about the security of the election.

"It's important because it certainly shows people that we are going back and hand counting to make sure it matches numbers from the machine," Tompkins said.

Every county in Iowa is required to conduct a post-election audit.
