KNOX COUNTY, Ill. — The Knox County Sheriff's Office received a report of a scam phone call where the person was pretending to be from the department, according to a press release

The scammer told the person that they had a Knox County warrant with a bond of $4,000, adding that this could be settled with $2,000 in vouchers.

The sheriff's office says it will not call to inform of a warrant or ask for money over the phone. Vouchers for payment will also not be requested via phone, according to the department.

Those unsure if the person is from the department are asked to hang up and call the Knox County Sheriff's Office to confirm the call's legitimacy.
