Rock Island Township has set up a fund to help residents recover financially from emergency situations.
If an emergency comes up that caused a resident to use money needed for living necessities, like a mortgage, rent, or utilities, then the Emergency Program can offer assistance, according to a spokesperson from the township. Emergencies may be things like unexpected car repairs, medical bills, appliance replacements, etc.
Residents who qualify could get up to $400 toward the cost of their emergency situation. If the amount is more than $400 then the resident must provide proof that they can pay the difference.
Applications will be accepted starting Monday, September 14, 2015. Residents applying for the program must provide information about their income, expenses, routine bills, details about the emergency, and they must prove that the funds will be available to cover basic living expenses for the next month.
Only residents of Rock Island Township are eligible for the program. Those residents must have a steady income and also must not be eligible for the General Assistance Program.
The Town Board has budgeted $18,000 for the program.
