ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — It's been one month since the city of Rock Island saw pieces of itself on the ground due to a tornado.
Fast forward to May 3, and Hodge Park is coming back to life as clean-up continues. Hugo Proulx said, "there's still much work to be done."
"We still have debris on the ground," Proulx said. "As a community we keep cleaning up, piling it up for the city whenever they come. It's all about making sure we are ok."
Proulx added that the cleanup process has been slow but doesn't let it bother him because he "understands the city has its hands full."
"When you look around, you don't want to complain too much because you want to work with the city," Proulx added. "The key to everything is to have patience and hope that everyone gets cleaned up."
Rock Island's Public Works Director Mike Bartels said the City had to shift its focus to flooding, delaying storm cleanup.
"We had two weather events close to the same time and due to the floods and not having the manpower needed for this flood fight, we needed to put more efforts into the flood," Bartels said. "We have personnel that is dedicated to checking our levee system, ensuring everything is ok."
Bartels added that they hope to shift their focus back to storm cleanup.
"We have several crews out and picking up debris," Bartels said. "We will get to everyone at some point. We did not forget about anyone."
The city hopes to complete the storm cleanup within the next three weeks.
