ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Law enforcement officers in Rock Island County will be stepping up their enforcement after receiving a new grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation.
Funding from the Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant runs from Oct. 1, 2023 through Sept. 30, 2024. During that time, members of the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office will conduct additional traffic enforcement efforts, focused on the busiest times on the year. Those efforts will focus on addressing the leading contributing causes of crashes such as speeding, impaired driving and using electronic devices while driving.
"We're pleased to receive this grant to step up out road safety efforts with the goal of saving lives. Our mission is to make travel safer through directed, proactive patrols and to stop, cite and arrest those who chose to violate traffic laws," Sheriff Darren Hart said.
