ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island law enforcement officers will be making some extra stops around the community this summer.
RIPD is partnering with the Rock Island Public Library to host a series of "Police Read-Alongs" at branches around the city. Officers will read stories to kids and their families, beginning on July 16.
“The City of Rock Island recognizes how important early reading is to childhood development. Studies show that kids who are proficient readers by the end of the third grade are more likely to graduate from high school and to be economically successful in adulthood,” Rock Island Police Chief Tim McCloud said in a press release.
“Given how critical reading is to a child’s individual achievement, the members of the Rock Island Police Department are excited to continue investing in our children by working hand in hand with our dedicated library staff,” McCloud said.

- Tuesday, July 16 - 2:30 p.m. at Longview Park
- Friday, July 26 - 10:30 a.m. at the Rock Island Watts-Midtown Branch
- Wednesday, July 31 - 11 a.m. at the Rock Island Southwest Branch
- Tuesday, Aug. 13 - 10:30 a.m. at the Rock Island-Watts Midtown Branch
- Friday, Aug. 23 - 10:30 a.m. at the Rock Island-Watts Midtown Branch
- Wednesday, Aug. 28 - 11 a.m. at the Rock Island Southwest Branch
