Rock Island National Cemetery Memorial Day in need of volunteers for flag placement

The volunteers will place American flags at the headstones of fallen service members.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Rock Island Cemetery is seeking for volunteers to help with placing American flags at the headstones of fallen service members in honor of Memorial Day.

Work to place the flags will begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 23. In case of severe weather the flag placement will take place on Friday, May 24 at 4 p.m. Hot dogs will be served to participants and volunteers once the flag placement is done.

All volunteers are encouraged to arrive early due to high traffic in the area. To receive flags and instructions, volunteers need to show up inside the cemetery. 

Work to remove the flags begins at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.
