ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — After being awarded $1 million in federal funding, Rock Island city officials want the community's help as they're deciding how to spend it.
The money comes from the federal government's Community Development Block Grant program. It's intended to help cities fund affordable housing and infrastructure development. According to city officials, projects receiving the money must meet at least one of the following objectives:
- Assisting low- and moderate-income households
- Eliminating or preventing slum & blight
- Responding to urgent needs
To help identify projects and opportunities to spend the grant funding, officials are holding a series of community feedback meetings where residents can share their ideas. The meeting dates and locations are:
- Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the South Rock Island Township office
- Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Rock Island Police Department
- Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Rock Island Police Department
If you aren't able to make any of the in-person meetings, there's also an online survey residents can use to share their thoughts, as well. That will be available until Nov. 2 and can be found here.
