2 Rock Falls police officers being recognized for their efforts in saving unconscious driver

On Tuesday, March 19, two Rock Falls police officers will be recognized with a Lifesaving Award at the Rock Falls City Council meeting.

ROCK FALLS, Ill. — Two Rock Falls police officers are being recognized with a Lifesaving Award for their efforts in saving an unconscious man's life earlier this year.

On Feb. 14, Rock Falls Police received a 911 call from a passenger in a vehicle who said the driver was unconscious and not breathing. The caller and the other passenger were able to stop the car and then proceeded to attempt CPR with assistance from the 911 dispatcher.

The caller was not from the area and wasn't able to immediately provide an exact location, the press release says. Police were able to locate the vehicle on Route 40, just north of the I-88 overpass.

When police arrived, an officer began administering CPR. Officers also administered one shock to the man's chest with an AED right before Rock Falls Fire and EMS arrived on scene to take over treatment.

The driver was hospitalized for several days before being released to a rehab center. Police say he has since been released to recover at home.

The 911 dispatcher, the fire department and the EMS personnel will also be recognized for their efforts. Rock Falls police did not provide the names of those being recognized but said the awards will be presented at the Rock Falls City Council meeting on March 19.
