Rock Falls man found dead after police respond to shots fired call

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, officers with the Rock Falls Police Department responded to the 1700 block of 14th Avenue for shots being fired.

ROCK FALLS, Ill. — A homicide investigation is underway in Rock Falls after a man was found dead with a suspected gunshot wound, police said.

Just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 17, officers with the Rock Falls Police Department responded to the 1700 block of 14th Avenue for shots being fired in the area. Police said that when they arrived, they found a man who was already deceased with apparent gunshot wounds in the 1300 block of West 17th Street.

Officials have identified the victim as 42-year-old Jasen M. Bell of Rock Falls. An autopsy was conducted on Wednesday and a homicide investigation is underway, per an RFPD press release. 

A suspect has not been identified at this time, police said. Investigators with the Rock Falls Police Department, Sterling Police Department, Whiteside County Sheriff's Office and Illinois State Police are following up on leads.
