MOLINE, Ill. — Quad Cities area veterans traveled to Washington D.C. on Tuesday as part of the 59th Honor Flight honoring local heroes.

An estimated 100 veterans took the trip, along with 60 guardians. Among the group were a World War II veteran, three Korean War veterans, numerous Vietnam War veterans and a woman veteran.

The group visited the National Air and Space Museum, Lincoln Memorial, Air Force Memorial and other war memorials.

Louis Guthrie, an Air Force veteran of nearly three decades, said "29 years is a long time to be traveling around the world and doing things. So I was honored to come and see some of my fellow veterans go on this flight with me."

Honor Flight of the Quad Cities has taken veterans to D.C. for free since 2008. The organization prioritizes WWII and Korean War veterans and veterans with a terminal illness. All veterans within a 75-mile radius of the Quad Cities are encouraged to apply.
