Recycling Fashion Show to take the stage at Putnam Museum

"Garbage Glam" will feature 14 models wearing designs made from at least 70% recycled materials.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — This is one fashion show you won't see on the runways in Paris or Milan. The Putnam Museum is hosting its second annual Recycling Fashion Show, Garbage Glam, on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Fourteen models are expected to take the runway wearing designs featuring everything from plastic bottles to grocery bags. Each piece is required to have at least 70% recycled materials. It's double the number of designer entries from last year, the museum said.

The first recycling fashion show was held in 2023, in conjunction with a plastic pollution exhibit.

"As a sustainability-focused museum, Putnam Museum is committed to educating the public about the impact of modern culture and its place in the ecosystem," a spokesperson for the museum said in a press release.

The event kicks off Saturday night at 6 p.m. with appetizers and a cash bar. The fashion show begins at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time.

Oct. 5 is also the final day for the Putnam's "Throwback Pricing" in celebration of the building's 60th anniversary. Museum admission is 25 cents for adults and 10 cents for kids.
