BURLINGTON, Iowa — The woman who struck and killed two construction workers on the Great River Bridge has been found guilty.
On Friday, March 15, 22-year-old Emily Johnson of Gladstone was found guilty of two counts of reckless homicide and two counts of unlawful use of an electronic communication device in the deaths of Pearson Franklin and Andrew Whitcomb.
According to Illinois State Patrol, the two workers were walking behind their stationary pickup truck while placing construction barrels for a work zone on the U.S. Route 34 bridge on Oct. 18, 2022. The truck's yellow construction lights were on at the time of the incident. Johnson was driving westbound when she crashed into a construction barrel and then the workers, inflicting fatal injuries on both.
Johnson faces between two to five years in prison on each count of reckless homicide. She will be sentenced at the Henderson County Courthouse at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 9.
