NWS confirms at least 5 tornadoes in greater Quad Cities region during Monday storms

No injuries or deaths have been reported.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — Editor's Note: The featured video shows the tornado west of Andover, Illinois on Monday evening. 

A total of seven tornadoes were confirmed by the National Weather Service Quad Cities during Monday's derecho, with five of those being in the News 8 viewing area. 

No injuries or deaths have been reported. 

Four were categorized as EF-1s and two as EF-0s. The seventh — located in Stephenson County, Illinois on the fringes of the viewing region — was an EF-U as the max wind speed is unknown. 

Quad Cities metro

One of the EF-1 tornadoes hit the Quad Cities metro.  The tornado hit Davenport, causing damage to trees, roofs and cars just south of Kimberly Road. The tornado continued eastward into part of Bettendorf before crossing the river into East Moline and fizzled just west of Short Hills Country Club. 

News 8 was at the scene of a Davenport apartment building, where the roof was ripped off and thrown into a parking lot. 

Taylor Ridge towards Sherrard, Andover, Swedona

NWS confirmed a second EF-1 tornado that started in Rock Island County near Taylor Ridge and traveled west towards Sherrard and Andover. Storm Track 8 Meteorologists Morgan Strackbein and Evan Bunkers were live from The Beast on I74 when the tornado appeared just west of Andover around 7:45 p.m. Monday. 

Winds reached 100 mph and the tornado traveled for about 21 miles before dissipating, according to NWS.

As Morgan and Evan found a safe place to shelter from the storm, they also captured video of high winds ripping trees to the ground. 

Kewanee

Two EF-1 tornadoes were confirmed in Kewanee, one on the south side and the other on the north side. Both hit between 8 and 8:10 p.m. on Monday night. Trees and debris were thrown all over, littering yards and roadways. News 8 received reports of trees falling on houses and branches flying through windows. 

One resident talked to News 8 about their reaction to the storm.

Fairport, Iowa

On Wednesday, NWS Quad Cities confirmed another tornado in the viewing region. It was categorized as an EF-0 and wind speeds reached around 75 mph. It traveled around 3 miles, crossing the Mississippi River from Muscatine County into Rock Island County before dissipating.

Just outside of the News 8 viewing area: Hale, Iowa and Dakota, Illinois

Another EF-0 tornado was confirmed in Hale, Iowa, which is in Jones County and sits on the western edges of the News 8 viewing region. An EF-U tornado was confirmed in Dakota, Illinois in Stephenson County, located just east of Jo Daviess County.
