ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island residents have a new way to report crimes to the local police department.
The department now offers an online crime reporting tool, which launched on May 30. The system allows residents to make police aware of incidents such as property damage, lost property, telephone harassment and thefts. In addition to criminal complaints, users can also request extra police patrols, report lost property or file complaints about nuisance issues like abandoned vehicles or parking complaints.
Once a report is filed, officers will review the information provided to determine if any follow-up is needed. Anyone who files a report can print out a copy of it and check on the status of the report by contacting Rock Island police.
There are still a few criteria that residents should be aware of before attempting to make an online report. They are:
- The situation isn't an emergency.
- The incident occurred within the Rock Island city limits.
- The victim doesn't know of any suspects.
- The crime didn't occur on a state freeway.
Emergencies or crimes in progress should still be reported to police by calling 911. You can file a report here.
