1 dead in Rock Island house fire

One person is dead and a firefighter was injured after a Thursday evening house fire in Rock Island.

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — One person is dead and a firefighter was injured after a Thursday evening house fire in Rock Island.

According to Rock Island city officials, officials responded to two homes in the 900 block of 22nd Street at 6:21 p.m. and found heavy fire and smoke. Crews remained on scene for more than four hours to fully extinguish the fire.

Officials say one person died as a result of the incident. 

A firefighter also sustained a minor injury while fighting the fire.

At 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Rock Island Deputy Fire Chief Greg Marty told News 8 that investigators had arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. Officials were seen putting up fire tape shortly thereafter.
