ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Rock Island Police have taken a juvenile into custody after an elementary school was placed on lockdown Tuesday, according to a press release.
Around 11:30 Tuesday morning, officers with the Rock Island Police Department responded to Longfellow School — located at 4198 Seventh Ave. — saying they received information of a juvenile with a firearm hiding on the property.
According to the release, school administrators had already placed the building on lockdown when officers responded. Police officers and the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department "conducted a room-by-room search for the involved juvenile and determined no armed subject was on the property and there was no threat to the students or staff," the release states.
The juvenile was located while officers were still on scene and was taken into custody without incident. Police told News 8 that the juvenile did not have a firearm in his possession when he was taken into custody. The department did not specify why the juvenile was arrested or if a firearm was recovered elsewhere.
The incident is still under investigation and no other information has been made available. Rock Island Police asks that any further inquiries be directed to the Rock Island/Milan School District #41 Administration Center.
